The simple geometries of the design are heavily influenced by its location in the city of Asheville, NC, and the unique topography of the site. The structure is connected directly to Pack Square Park through the use of a long pedestrian bridge which also serves as a shelter for the bus terminal below. The design of the building itself is a simple cube that cantilevers over the edge of the steep slope below. This dramatic cantilever is aided by the wood joinery and bracing of the structure. Along with the bus terminal, the design offers a roundabout for taxi, carpool, or similar services to quickly pick up passengers, as well as two levels of parking indicated in the model by the large white box. This parking garage also functions as an elevated plaza for the site, as well as a part of the base for the main building of the design. The simple philosophy of the design is to do the most with the least.
